People are always asking me about lofts for sale and for rent in downtown Tacoma.  Anyone who knows me knows I’m a sucker for high ceilings and lots of big windows! Due to Tacoma’s  industrial past we are blessed with several buildings that have been converted to lofts.  The first one I ever became aware of was Cliff Street Lofts on 11th & A Street in Downtown Tacoma.

Built in 1905, the building has housed a variety of companies and businesses over the years and was converted to apartments by Lorig Associates in 1992. Eventually in 2004 they were converted to condos, with the added benefit of being one of the first downtown buildings to participate in the City of Tacoma’s 10 year property tax abatement.

The units sport exposed brick walls, 16′ high ceilings, and big old floor to ceiling windows that frame views of Downtown Tacoma, Thea Foss Waterway, Murray Morgan Bridge, and of course Mt Rainier.

Many of the owners over the year have customized their units, some with fantastic suspended areas for sleeping or built in storage pieces.  These are the kind of things that making owning a loft so fun- all of the cool ways that you can make living in an open space functional.

Due to the GLUT of condos that flooded Downtown Tacoma during the housing crisis, condos at the Cliff Street lofts are selling for around $100,000- or $156/ square foot.
