What I Like Best: About 10 years ago, the city made a big push to increase density in Downtown Tacoma, and the Hillside/McCarver area is where a lot of this went down! As a result, there’s several new or almost-new townhouses that have cropped up in the area. Many of my own friends are living in this area now. When I ask them why they say love lithe location and enjoy the awesome accessibility to downtown. Plus, a lot of the housing in Hillside/McCarver is very affordable and there are some amazing views!

What I Like Least: Since this area is so new, some services and businesses just haven’t gotten there yet. Everyone is still waiting for that special neighborhood restaurant or coffee shop to open up, but until then, people just head up to Hilltop or Downtown for some good eats and fun. Fortunately, a cab ride from Hillside/McCarver to any of the bars or restaurants on Pacific Avenue or in St Helens is less than $10.
